Love Letter to My Subscribers on Valentine’s Day

Today is Valentine’s Day, a day dedicated to love. It’s celebrated in many fashions–exchanging hearts and chocolates, sending bouquets of flowers, and sometimes date nights at favorite restaurants (or, in my case, accompanying my husband to a previously scheduled visit with the heart doctor–ironic, huh?). My own heart is full today. I’m very grateful for all the love in my life from my family and friends. But today I’m celebrating the love and support shown to me by my faithful blog subscribers.

I began blogging in 2009 when I was fifty-six years old. Fourteen years of blog posts have ensued and range from topics such as coping with empty nest syndrome, (closely followed by boomerang kids as they ricocheted back to the nest), to transitioning from being “outta sight” as they said in the 1960s, to becoming literally out of sight. My subscriber friends tend to be women of the Baby Boomer generation, Lady Boomers as I like to call us since I most assuredly fit that age demographic. And, speaking of age, increasingly I’m writing about health, retirement, and caregiving issues we face.

Well, my dear virtual friends, thanks to you and your loyal support, my blog posts evolved into a book project. And today, Valentine’s Day, is the day my publisher, She Writes Press, is sending my book to print. Be Brave. Lose the Beige! Finding Your Sass after Sixty is scheduled to be released on May 16th.

I’m turning 70 this year. I have worried about whether my title would remain relevant. But whether we are entering our sixties, seventies, eighties or beyond, we are entering what may be the last third of our lives.  If we don’t choose to be brave and sassy now, when will we ever be? I’ve decided I’m going to be brave and have a seventieth birthday book launch bash. You are all invited!  Details to follow.

But this post is my valentine to all of you, sending you love and many thanks for your support. You make me feel like I’m not writing in the dark.
